Kondo Forest Cabin: A Finnish-Designed Retreat in the Heart of Niseko
This quintessential cabin perfectly encapsulates the forest feel, nestled within mature pine trees which surround the house on three sides. The front of the cabin faces directly towards the majestic Mount Yotei and features a fantastic wooden deck, perfect for entertaining, alfresco dining, BBQs, or just relaxing with a drink and a good book.
Upon entering the cabin you are greeted by a lovely and functional 'genkan' or boot-room with a bench and storage space for coats and all manner of outdoor wear. The side wall has been cleverly opened up so you feel immediately at home within the warmth of the wood cabin. The centre of the cabin is the living and dining room with multiple sitting areas, a dining table for six, bookshelves, and a very effective heater. Windows on each side allow for a lot of light to flood the area, but also enable the beauty of the surroundings to be enjoyed from within. This feature follows throughout, with both of the two well-appointed bedrooms at the back of the cabin having windows both behind the beds and on the side, making you feel you truly are living in the woods.
The kitchen and bathroom, both fully renovated a few years ago, are located at the opposite end to the bedrooms, giving great separation for privacy. The renovation, which also modernised the entrance area, opened up the kitchen to the outdoor deck via a large widowed door, making for a seamless transition from indoor kitchen preparation to outdoor entertaining and dining.
Key features include the cabin being built in 2003, with a new water heater installed in 2022. It was designed in Finland and built with materials from Finland. A major renovation in 2023 included door resizing, a new bathroom and toilet, a new kitchen, new internal and external lighting, and new electrical cabling. A new kerosene heater was added in 2024, and the roof and exterior were painted in the summer of 2024.
