33-Pyō Two-Story Home for 4–5 Person Family: Kitashō Shōji
This model home plan by Kitashō Shōji is designed for families of 4–5 people, specifically engineered for comfortable living in Iiyama City's snowy climate. The design features a single-slope roof, which is not only highly aesthetic but also allows snow to slide off naturally, eliminating the need for roof snow removal—a critical point for life in a snow country.
The approximately 18-jo (297 sq ft) LDK is a spacious living-dining-kitchen area that won't feel cramped even when the whole family gathers. Privacy is carefully considered: while corridors are not partitioned with doors, the placement of the staircase helps protect privacy when using the washroom or toilet. Furthermore, separating the changing room from the washbasin area creates a layout where all family members can use the facilities without hesitation.
The kitchen is an II-shaped layout with the stove placed against the wall. The range hood is also wall-mounted, keeping the countertop on the living room side clean and uncluttered. The dining table is immediately adjacent, making serving and clearing away dishes easy. From the kitchen, you can see the entire living room, allowing you to keep an eye on young children playing. Another key point is being able to see the TV from the kitchen!
An open pantry with shelves provides space for a microwave, toaster, trash bin, and more. Placing appliances in the open pantry keeps the back of the kitchen tidy. It also offers ample storage for food supplies and other items.
The home is designed for convenient housework flow. A first-floor drying room and family closet allow laundry to be hung at any time and brought in effortlessly. The staircase is placed against one wall, with an iron handrail on the living room side, contributing not only to a stylish look but also to an open and airy living space. The area under the stairs can be customized to your preference, such as setting up a desk or creating storage space.
