森山ビレッジ (Moriyama Village) - A Digital Fabrication Settlement in Gojome
森山ビレッジ is a unique residential and rental village located at the foot of Mount Moriyama, a symbol of Gojome Town in Akita Prefecture. Described as Japan's first (?) digital fabrication settlement, or 'デジファブ集落', this innovative project consists of five buildings designed to evoke the image of traditional Akita farmhouses, complete with thatched roofs (茅葺古民家), irimoya roofs (入母屋屋根), and chumon style gates (中門造り). While the exteriors pay homage to local architectural heritage, each of the five buildings features a completely different, modern interior design. The village has a capacity of three buildings (for 2-5 people per building) and offers parking for approximately 8 cars.
The property is situated on a hill, offering stunning views of the Sea of Japan, the rural landscape, and Mount Moriyama itself. The buildings are constructed from wood sourced within Gojome Town, filling the rooms with a pleasant scent of timber. The walls are built with ample thickness to provide high insulation, ensuring comfort in both summer and winter. Each building has its own owner; some are primary residences, while others are used as second homes or vacation homes. The village operates as a community-shared space, with some buildings available for rent as single-unit accommodations. Not all buildings are available for rent, so please check the official website for details. Essential living equipment such as a kitchen, bath, toilet, cooking utensils, futons, refrigerator, and microwave are provided.
